When you think about refugees arriving by boat, think again.

Australia’s policy of mandatory detention to be frank, is quite shocking. The legality behind imprisoning asylum seekers is sketchy but the morality behind it is clear - indefinitely detaining those seeking to flee persecution is just plain wrong.

Unfortunately, due to misinformation spread by the media and the major political parties, the truth about asylum seekers and in particular those arriving by boat is quite commonly incorrect.

A message needs to be sent that our current approach of providing negligible assistance to refugees and indefinite detaining them is not only immoral, it’s also not publicly supported.

How to help?

- Demand your MP end indefinite detention.

- Make a donation to either Amnesty International or Getup.

- Let other people know the truth! If any of your friends / family are speaking nonsense, let them know you don’t agree!

- When speaking about it on Twitter, use #rethinkrefugees
